Currents

appear to me in waves

foamy surfaces diffuse then

smash against rock

pebble & sand

light’s muted shine in

white trim: an arabesque about

torrents of navy-black water

the pealing reminder a piccolo

gives an orchestra—her keys

flutter as mimics the bird

sounding an endless trill

float over fluid foundation

dip & dive under

covers from above

ebb to the shore, cower,

disperse but don’t disappear

your image apprehensive

a refraction of light

synapse

seiche in my mind; disrupted

my developing worldview

believe whatever you want; I

never realized the problems we drown

will always resurface

impressment! take over the

ship I so particularly sail, carefully

calculated movements no match

make me a soldier in

your army, give me a

spear, give me a

euphemism, give me a

dogma to wrap my

fingers around, give me a

chance to assert myself, in

affirming yourself, in

accusing herself, in

an accidental alliance, in a

secret betrayal

we used to play battleship

in the living room

I sat crisscross-applesauce

but those ships have sunk and

those currents pull you away

separated from home

flood my eyes

flood her eyes

do not watch our tears fall

8,923,200 Minutes

The footsteps were moving away. My face unclenched ever so slightly. The walls were  damp and the moss felt gold against my back. My ear was pressed against the crack. My legs just barely folded tight
